Annual Ice Carnival

What’s the Ice Carnival?

Every year Skate Amherstburg hosts an Ice Carnival, or as it is sometimes referred to, the Ice Show. It’s like a dance recital, on ice… a theme is chosen along with appropriate music, costumes and choreography that all come together to form the “Ice Show”. The themes and costumes vary from year to year, and so do our participants, but the one thing that remains constant is that participating in the Ice Show, and celebrating the achievements of a season of hard work, is a highlight for every skater. All members of Skate Amherstburg including our young CanSkaters are encouraged to participate.

Edge Photography will be on site to take group and individual pictures on dress rehearsal night. The schedule for dress rehearsal is posted here.

PLEASE NOTE: All skaters should have skate guards as as the hallway past the soccer field is not blade friendly.

Rehearsals

Every level of our Club is included and groups are choreographed according to music selection and skating ability. Ice Show rehearsals continue through the Winter session until the Ice Show, which will be held in April.

Skaters should arrive in costume ½ hour before the show begins.

Junior, Intermediate and Senior skaters will see the Dressing Room Supervisor assigned to their area to be checked in – just so we know they have arrived. These skaters will remain at ice level during the show.

CanSkate Parents, for safety reasons, we are asking your co-operation with the following procedures:

The CanSkate Monday group skates in the first half of the show and the Thursday group skates in the second half. Your skater will be provided with a ticket so that they may sit with you in the opposite half. The first group of skaters should arrive ½ an hour before the show begins. Once the skater has been checked in and has their skates on, they will be escorted to ice level to await their time on the ice. They will remain at ice level watching the show until intermission.

The CanSkate Thursday group will be able to sit in the stands with their family for the first ½ of the show. At intermission, please proceed to the dressing room and check in per the above procedure. Parents may collect these skaters at the end of the finale.

Only one parent should accompany the skater into the dressing room, bring your skater to the Check-In located in the main hall to all dressing rooms.

Upon check in, the parent will be given a coloured card with the skater’s name. Please present this card when picking up your skater at intermission or at the end of the show. After check-in bring your child to the Dressing Room Supervisor. The dressing room assignments are noted at the end of this post.

At intermission, please pick up your skater. They can return to the stands with you to watch the rest of the show. If they wish to skate in the finale, please keep them in their costume and skates with skate guards on.

Approximately 2 lines before the end of the show an announcement will be made and ONE parent should proceed back downstairs with their skater for the finale. Please proceed to the very end of the dressing room hallway and turn right (there will be signs). Parents may watch the finale from behind the hockey benches. Due to fire regulations we ask that you DO NOT crowd the area near the bleachers. We also ask that you stay away from the glass to avoid distracting the skaters. At the end of the finale, proceed to your child’s assigned dressing room to pick them up.

NOTE: Costume returns take place at the end of the complete show. There will be NO returns done during intermission. Do not forget to bring street clothes!

Fund Raising

Programs will be on sale in the upper lobby for $2 each. Please purchase one as a keepsake of your child’s participation in the Carnival.

Flower bouquets will be on sale in the upper lobby prior to the show and during intermission.

Proceeds from all of these fund raising efforts go towards Carnival expenses. We appreciate your support.

Costume Returns

Costumes will be returned immediately following the show. Please remember to bring your skater’s street clothes to wear home.

Costume returns will take place in the lobby. There will be two lines for returns split alphabetically by last name: A-L and M-Z. Volunteers assigned to collect costumes after the show will be ready to refund your costume deposit.
